Birdie Breakfast Cereal Recipe
Keep in mind that this recipe makes a very large batch that you will most probably have enough leftovers to freeze for later.
Let 8 cups of water boil on the stove in a large pot
Immediately add:
1/2 cup of pearled barley
1/2 cup of soft wheat berries
1/2 cup of buckwheat groats
After boiling for about 20 minutes add the following:
1/2 cup of bulgar wheat
1/2 cup of whole grain rye
If it looks as if the mixture is starting to dry up, simply add a little bit more water and then bring the mixture back to a boil. After boiling for 10 minutes, you can then add the following ingredients:
1/2 cup of millet
1/2 cup of couscous
Cook for another 10 minutes and then remove the pot from the stove and allow to cool.
Whilst cooling, you can stir in a 1/2 cup of flax seed.
Just before serving, you can heat the cereal up and add cooked apple, cooked sweet potato, mashed up pineapple, mashed up banana, dried cherries, raisins, dried currants, dried coconut, or anything fruit that your bird loves.
As an alternative, you could also add cooked brown rice, cooked beans (red, white, lentils, kidney and garbanzo) and pasta with a combination of vegetables, such as corn, peas, broccoli and carrots. By adding these ingredients your bird’s Breakfast Cereal will turn into a dinner time meal!
