Bombay Cat Behavior, Facts and Health Care Problem
Treading through the treacherous jungle in order to satisfy the fantasy of owning one of nature’s most magnificent creatures is not only dangerous, it is also unnecessary. Black Panthers are graceful, powerful creatures and owning one would be the thrill of a lifetime for any cat lover. However, the danger and risks involved could be quite catastrophic. There is, however, a solution to this craving, the Bombay. This sleek, majestic breed was created by a devoted cat lover who she herself longed to own such an extraordinary cat. Her efforts brought forth a beautiful, miniature version of the elegant Black Panther. Appearance Created with the superb gene pool of the American Shorthair and the Sable Burmese, the Bombay features a short haired coat that is smooth, supple and jet black in color with a body that is petite, but most assuredly solid. Recognized by the Cat Fancier’s Association, this breed must adhere to strict standards. The Bombay must possess large copper colored eyes with a distinctly round shape. Those cats that do not possess these qualities, or whose eye color fades with age are automatically disqualified from the show ring. Another standard requirement is that all cats must display the infamous jet black coat. Occasionally, a litter of sable colored kittens still appear. Although the Bombay is considered to be small, its substantially solid frame has it weighing in at around six to eleven pounds. Bombay Cat Behavior and Characteristics Not only is the Bombay a solid cat, it is also one known for its sweet, friendly behavior and personality and its highly remarkable intellect. There are very few breeds of domesticated cats than can be taught to fetch and heel as well as perform many other entertaining tricks. The Bombay is also a cat who desires to speak its mind, though its voice is not boisterous or annoying and it makes for a great companion. Bombay’s are a sociable, affectionate and very tolerant breed that adores the company of other dogs, cats, people and children. This breed of cat would make a wonderful unique addition to any home. Another eccentric quality this cat possesses is its interest and greeting of strangers. Don’t be surprised if every visitor to your home is greeted with a friendly hello from this sweet natured cat. Since Bombay’s are a wildly social breed, this cat is perfect for anyone who spends most of their time at home. This feline is happy and content to claim a spot on any available lap perfect for a little cat nap. There are a few nay sayers who believe the Bombay is only interested in the body heat we give off, but anyone who owns a Bombay knows they are only happy when they are hanging out with their families. For someone who isn’t at home very much, deciding to get a Bombay may not be the right decision. However, if you crave that extraordinary look and personality, getting a second one to keep it company is the best way to go. This breed is an active and extremely personable breed and loneliness and boredom can make for a very unhappy cat. Bombay Cat Health and Grooming A proper diet, routine veterinary visits and plenty of activity are the best ways an owner can ensure the health of their cat. Grooming is also essential, although with the Bombay only having a short coat, a brush down once a week with a grooming glove should be perfect for keeping the silky, jet black coat shiny and elegant. Anyone who has had an affinity for the marvel that is the Black Panther is sure to be thrilled with the sweet, smart and extreme beauty of the majestic Bombay.
