Colorpoint Shorthair Cat Behavior, Facts and Health Care Problem

A graceful and elegant breed, the Colorpoint Shorthair is a prime example of a beautiful cat. Often mistaken as a Siamese, the Colorpoint does have a similar appearance, however, as the name states, the difference between them are the Colorpoint’s exquisite array of colors points displayed on certain areas of the body.

Appearance
The physical characteristics of a Colorpoint are its statuesque body and its long tapered tail. All Colorpoints come with either a tan or white base body coat and feature point colors on the feet, tail, ears and face. Point colors come in a wide range of color pallets recognized by the CFA, including Red, Cinnamon, Cream, Fawn, Smoke or Silver. These beautiful cats are also available in tortoiseshell, tabby or parti-color patterns as well. Other interesting physical characteristics of a Colorpoint Shorthair are its narrow, almost seemingly triangular shaped head and its almond shaped eyes.

Behavior and Characteristics
This particular breed of cat is also well known for being extremely sociable and playful. Colorpoints are happiest when spending quality time, investigating and socializing with everyone and everything a busy household has to offer. This active cat has a peculiar, curious, side that gives him a reputation for getting into odd unusual places with one of them being a regular old grocery bag.

Although this may be true, anyone who has severe allergies to cats that cause asthmatic attacks, should still shy away from this breed. Health Problems and Grooming
Due to their extremely short hair, the Colorpoint Shorthair does not require extensive grooming. However, if you suffer from a mild allergy to cat dander, it is recommended to bathe your cat once a month and brush him for loose hairs and dander with a grooming glove once a week. Remember; do not give your cat a bath more than the recommended once a month, any more often than this regiment can cause their skin to become red, itchy and dry.

The Colorpoint is a healthy, active breed, but as with all kittens, they should receive a thorough physical examination and a regular series of immunizations to protect them from serious feline infectious diseases. Your veterinarian can also recommend the proper food and diet supplement plan for this active cat breed, ensuring he stays happy and healthy.
