Havana Brown Cat Behavior, Facts and Health Care Problem
Many may think that with a name like Havana Brown, there can only be one color available. However, this beautiful and unique breed comes in a deep luxurious Chocolate or Lilac variety.
History
The Havana Brown was created in the nineteen fifties by a cat fancier who fell in love with a Chocolate Siamese. While the birth of an all Chocolate Siamese kitten by a Chocolate Pointe Siamese has been happening for centuries, this color was not recognized by the Cat Fancier’s Association of the United States or cat associations in Great Britain. However, this particular cat lover liked it so much she had a female imported from Great Britain and set out to create a new breed called the Havana Brown.
Appearance
Similar in appearance to its ancestor the Siamese, this breed physical characteristics feature a long head with a face that looks oddly square if viewed from the side. Other traits it displays include long elegant legs and a smooth, sleek body. With a canine like affinity for people, this breed is definitely a great pick for a family cat. The Havana Brown may be small, but its personality out weighs its girth. These cats are petite in size and usually weigh in at around six to ten pounds.
Behavior and Characteristics
The Havana Brown is a highly intelligent breed and is quick to learn his name and walk on a leash without any trouble. This lovable energetic cat is also known for its playful nature with its stealth like plotting of a sneak attack on unsuspecting passers by which only adds to its already charming and endearing qualities.
While some may say that the Havana is a nosy cat; however it is more creative to consider this breed a curious one. The Havana Brown is more than willing to help with the family chores, especially if it involves the confiscation of a paper grocery sack. This playful cat is always up for an energizing game of hide and seek.
The Havana Brown enjoys his family time and while he can make due if left home alone for long hours, this breed is much happier with the family at home or an additional partner in crime to keep him company. It is important to remember though that the Havana Brown can be a mischievous little cat and having a second one may leave your house a little disheveled when you return home. After all, two cats mean twice the antics.
While other breeds are well known for being highly vocal and obnoxious, the Havana Brown is actually quite different. The loudest part of this breed is its purr. Often times, you will hear this sound as your Havana Brown makes his presence known in your lap waiting for his belly to be rubbed.
Grooming
With the Havana being a shorthaired breed, grooming your cat will be an easy process. Once or twice a week brush him with a grooming glove to remove loose hairs and dander or even use a soft cloth to wipe him down. This quick regiment will ensure his coat stays sleek, smooth and shiny.
Anyone looking for a charming and playful personality combined with the beauty of a dark, deep luxurious look is sure to find the Havana Brown a great breed.
