Koret Cat Behavior, Facts and Health Care Problem

Originating in Thailand, the Koret breed of cat existed as early as before the seventeen hundreds. The Thai people held a great respect for this beautiful cat and believed that its unique silvery blue coat meant monetary wealth. They also believed that its deep green eyes represented fruitful crops. In following these beliefs, the Thai initiated a tradition that all newly married couples should be given two of these highly regarded cats to ensure a successful union.

Appearance
With the Thai people holding the silver blue color of the Koret to be sacred; many cat associations do not recognize any other color. Although, on occasion the lilac color has appeared, but the traditional color is considered the only breed standard. Today’s Koret breed still displays the unique and unusual shade of green for its eyes. Oddly enough, it can take up to four years for a Koret to fully develop this unique shade of green as kittens of this breed are born with an amber colored eye.

Along with its already unusual features, some of the other physical characteristics this cat displays include a stout, but compact body with a heart shaped face, large ears and a medium length tail that elegantly tapers at the end. The Koret is a moderately sized cat weighing it at around six to eleven pounds on average.

Behavior and Characteristics
The Koret is a gifted as well as being noted as a sign of good luck. This breed of cat has been given the wondrous gifts of acute hearing, sight and sense of smell. With these three senses in a heightened state, the Koret is able to detect predators well before they ever become a threat.

However, just as this heightened awareness brings good tidings, it also has its draw backs. With such sensitivity to noise, the Koret is not very comfortable in areas containing immense amounts of sound. If an owner ever wishes to show this wonderful and beautiful breed of cat, they will want to start introducing him to the typical sounds and confusion that go on in the cat show world when he is a kitten.

Anyone considering the Koret for a family pet may wish to reconsider. This particular breed of cat is well known for its pushy and obnoxious attitude. Many have referred to this cat as a mirror image of the moody and grumbling teenager. The Koret will insist with persistence when it wants affection and attention, and it will most definitely ignore you if you bother it when it is not in the mood. Even with this moodiness, the Koret is still a loving and playful cat when the mood strikes him. These personality quirks make the Koret a poor choice for a household with small children.

Health Problems
When purchasing your Koret, it is important to note that while they have a great many gifts, they are also a rare breed and with that comes a few hereditary ailments that must be tested for. The Koret is known to on occasion, inherit neuromuscular problems. Although these disorders are uncommon, it is best to visit your veterinarian for testing immediately after purchase.

If owning a cat with a diva like attitude and a belief that it brings good luck appeals to you, you may just want to look into the luxurious Koret.
