Russian Blue Cat Behavior, Facts and Health Care Problem

This breed of cat has been known by many names including the Foreign Blue, Archangel Cat, the Maltese cat, and the Spanish Blue. However, today this regal looking gray blue cat is known mostly as the Russian Blue.

Originating in Russia, before the eighteen hundreds, the Russian Blue has been deemed the most “House friendly cat” by cat fancier’s all over the world. The Russian Blue is an affectionate cat; however it has been given an unwarranted reputation for being unsociable and standoffish. This belief could not be further from the truth. The Russian Blue, while an affectionate and loving breed, is highly timid around strangers and holds all of its affection for its family members only.

Appearance
The beautiful characteristics of a Russian Blue include a muscular body, triangular face, brilliant green, slightly almond shaped eyes and a tail that tapers gracefully at the tip. The Russian Blue also displays an endearing face that always seems to be wearing a smile.

This particular breed is considered to be a medium sized cat and typically weighs anywhere from seven to a modest twelve pounds. The Russian Blue is the only Russian breed recognized by the Cat Fanciers Association. However, there are a Russian Black and a Russian White version which is only recognized by cat associations in Great Britain.

Behavior and Characteristics
Any career oriented person wishing to own a cat, should definitely consider the Russian Blue. This self-contained breed is happy to be alone and does not require the company of additional cats. Health Problems and Grooming
Even though the Russian Blue is a shorthaired breed, its coat is rather thick and plushy. However, the texture of this cats coat allows fro a once a week grooming routine to keep the coat healthy and free of loose hairs, debris and dander.

Additionally, it is also recommended to trim your cats nails once a month to prevent snagging and possible infection from cracking and ripping. Dental hygiene is another important aspect to a cats grooming regiment. A regular brushing routine will help prevent any future dental problems cats are prone to contract with age
