Turkish Angora Cat Behavior, Facts and Health Care Problem

Being one of the oldest cat breeds, the Turkish Angora is both beautiful and intelligent. This breed first originated in Turkey in the fourteen hundreds. For many years, cat fanciers were disheartened as they believed the Angora had become extinct. The Angora breed had been bred so frequently with Persians in order to improve their coat that the beautiful Angora breed eventually died out in other countries.

However, the Turkish were very clever in making the decision not to part with any of the Turkish Angoras in their country. After some time however, the Turkish finally and reluctantly allowed a few of this breed to be imported to Europe and America shortly after World War II.

This breed is considered a medium sized breed as it typically weighs anywhere from six to eleven pounds. The Turkish Angora is a loving and playful breed as well as a very vocal one. This cat is very happy to voice his opinion or hold a conversation with any willing and listening family member. Health Problems and Grooming
While the Turkish Angora is a longhaired breed, grooming is really not that time consuming. Luckily, the silky texture of this breeds coat allows for tangles to occur infrequently. However, a regular routine brushing and combing two to three times a week is a sufficient amount to ensure that your cats coat stays free from gnarls and matts.

Grooming your Turkish Angora is also important because as with any longhaired breed a regular brushing routine helps remove loose hair, debris and dander that might have otherwise ended up in your cat’s stomach, where it could eventually develop into a hairball.
