These dogs are intelligent and independent, however, which can make them stubborn during training. If they are interested, however, they will excel. They do not respond to rough handling and can have some difficulty around smaller children for this reason.

Afghan Hounds Health Problems and Issues
Afghan Hounds health problems are prone to bloating, so if you are serving them dry food, it is recommended that you soak the food a few minutes before serving. Also, do not allow the dog to run for at least an hour after he eats and avoid over-drinking water. The water should also be room temperature for this breed.

The Afghan Hound has few health concerns, although they are prone to cancer and allergies. If the Hound has to go under anesthesia for surgery, remind the vet that this breed can have problems with the anesthesia.

The Afghan Hound does need regular brushing and grooming due to its elegant, long coat. You should brush the dog at least two times a week and clip its nails monthly.
