Pugs Pups Facts and Health Problems Information

Pugs have long charmed the planet with their adorable faces. Their distinctive appearances have made this breed instantly charming and attracting.

Appearance
The AKC has been put in the Toy Group, weighing between 14 and 18 pounds. They have distinct squashed faces and curly tails, making them look like little pig dogs. Pugs can come in a range of colors, including silver, black and beige or fawn colors. All have a black mask face with alert, bugged-out eyes. They are very muscular, despite their small stature.

Characteristics
Pugs are so good natured that people can almost walk on them without worry. Their laid-back attitude is one of the top reasons why so many people have them as pets. They can turn into an instant fighter, however, if they believe that an intruder is going to hurt their owner. Pugs are wonderful with other pets and with children. Pugs have even been known to carry parakeets around to the owner without disturbing even a feather. However, if you or anyone in your family has allergies, these dogs can be a cause of setting the allergies or allergy-induced asthma and will cause problems that way.

Pugs are comfortable in apartments and town homes and they do not require a lot of exercise. You will still need to make sure your Pug has some exercise to stay healthy, however. A daily walk will be sufficient for his health. While walking your Pug, however, be sure to use a harness instead of a collar due to the respiratory difficulties that the Pug can have.

Pugs can go to training classes, but they are not the fastest learners. They will learn to sit or heel very fast, but sometimes they learn better as they grow older and after many tries and practice.

Health Problems and Grooming
Pugs love to eat and love their food. They will learn all kinds of tricks so long as you give them a treat afterwards. You need to make sure to watch what your Pug eats because these animals are apt to gain too much weight and suffer the problems with weight gain. They can also suffer from eye injuries, respiratory illnesses and Demodectic mange. They will only require one brush a week, but you will need to clean their wrinkles so that they don’t smell or develop bacteria.

If you want a lovable dog with plenty of personality and not much grooming, the Pug can be a great fit for you. As long as you don’t mind a little snoring in your ear at night, these Pugs are a great dog.
