Rottweiler Pups Facts and Health Problems Information
Rottweilers have long been feared in our everyday society. They are devoted dogs to their owners and very intelligent, but have had problems with aggression in the past – mainly as a result of their poor owners training.
Appearance
Rottweilers are large dogs that are very versatile. They can guard their homes and excel in agility training. When they are with their owners, they become sweet lap dogs.
These dogs are very muscular and very strong with powerful jaws. They weigh between 85 and 130 pounds with a sleek black and brown coat. They stand 22 to 27 inches tall and have a short, stumpy tail.
Characteristics
A part of the AKC’s Working Group, these dogs have long been a top choice for guard dogs. Unfortunately, some Rottweilers’ owners have mistreated their dogs or trained them poorly and made them more aggressive. These abused dogs are the reason the breed has the reputation of being a dangerous dog. If they are bred correctly and raised well, they will not be a danger and are perfect, loving family pets.
Rottweilers do not do well in an apartment or smaller setting. They are too big and require a lot more room to run. Ideally, the Rottweiler will have a home with a large yard or else you will need to take your dog on frequent runs to burn off the excess energy.
The Rottweiler is a very happy and intelligent dog, but it is on its best behavior when it has something to do. Give the Rottweiler a job and you will have a happy dog. It is imperative that you begin training your puppy early as these dogs grow into large, powerful dogs very quickly. Also, you will want to socialize your puppy early to teach it to get along well with other humans besides its owner and other dogs.
The Rottweiler responds well to new training, which is why it excels in agility training and obedience trials. Rottweilers might not be the best idea for young children since they are known to knock them over before they learn how strong and big they are. Also, they can accidentally injure small children while trying to play with them.
Health Problems and Grooming
Since the Rottweiler can expend a lot of calories during their exercise time, you will need to be prepared to buy a lot of dog food. You will need to make sure you have all of the right nutrition items to ensure your Rottweiler has a long, healthy life. Rottweilers are known to have joint problems as they get older.
Because the Rottweiler has a short coat, there is little grooming that needs to be done with this dog. You will need to check on their nails and make sure their ears stay clean as well.
If the idea of a strong, powerful 100-plus pound animal crawling in your lap startles you, this could not be the animal for you.
