How to Train a Dog - Dog Training Simple Commands

In order for both owner and dog to live harmoniously, it is essential that some basic behaviors are followed, and this requires at least a basic level of dog obedience training and understanding of dog training simple commands.

How to Train a Dog
Though domesticated for thousands of years, dogs still retain some of their wild nature. People often make the mistake of treating them as small children, rather than as animals. Dog training helps to create peace and security for both the dog and the family.

By nature, dogs are hunters and are therefore inclined to chase things. Young dogs especially are likely to take off after another animal, a car or child. Any of these scenarios can result in harm to your companion, a person or property. To lessen the chance of bad consequences, dogs should be trained at an early stage to listen to voice and simple dog training commands from the whole family.

The chances of an accident are reduced when a dog responds to his natural inclination if you teach your dog to obey simple dog training commands such as 'halt' or 'stop', then 'come'. In the beginning it might be necessary to use a leash so that you can pull the dog sideways as you issue the dog training command. Be careful to avoid jerking backward against the dog's throat. In time they will learn to obey by voice alone as they associate the command with the physical restraint.

Dog training helps to ensure the safety of both you and your pet, along with other people and animals. Many dogs will race after another who, in fact, can do them great harm. Dogs tend to react - as when the other dog has entered his 'territory' - and don't judge, as we might, whether they have any chance of chasing the animal away. They simply act on their emotions.

It is important to remember that even simple training goes beyond creating a basic level of safety and security, or the avoidance of physical harm and property damage. By nature, dogs are pack animals. They recognize a social hierarchy that is established very early in life. For your own sake, and your dog’s, you must be at the top of that hierarchy.

Some dogs naturally attempt to undertake the alpha role. That has evolutionary advantages when they live in the wild. However, you have the better ability in a domesticated situation to forecast consequences. The relationship between you and your dog will be far better if you never let even the most assertive dog be your master. No matter how cherished they are, you must learn how to train a dog and make sure your dog understands that you are in charge. That means they must obey your dog training commands at all times, regardless of the situation. People are often averse to asserting themselves in such a dictatorial way, but it is crucial when dealing with your dog.

To create a happy relationship, you need to be consistent so that the dog has a sense of it’s place in the ‘pack’. Learning how to train a dog helps to establish your role as alpha, and your dog knows that that it will be kept safe if it follows your lead, as it would follow the alpha in the wild.
