Ferret Behaviors Suggesting Illness
When your ferret is ill, you will most likely notice a number of different physical symptoms. Your ferret may look unwell, perhaps with a runny nose or eyes, or a cough. It is important to keep in mind that your ferret may also show changes in behavior when he is not feeling well. In fact, the behavior changes may even come before the more physical symptoms. This is why you need to take the time each day to interact with your pet ferret. If your ferret is not feeling well, you should be able to recognize his signs of distress. Here are some of the more common indications that your ferret may not feel well.
As many people know, ferrets are highly energetic animals. However if your ferret is acting lethargic, he may be unwell. Take note if your ferret lacks his usual spunk and spark. You may want to talk to your veterinarian if this lethargic behavior lasts for a few days. Additionally, your ferret may seem to have more energy than usual, except the energy may seem completelyhelter skelter. If your ferret is rushing around, acting upset or confused, there is also a good possibility that he is unwell.
Pay attention to your ferret’s food habits. If your ferret suddenly has a disinterest in eating or the food and treats you give to him, it may be time to talk to your veterinarian.
Lastly, general irritability could also be a sign of distress. Do not take it personally when your ferret is grumpy but rather look for the causes of his attitude. If you do not see any changes in environment or care, consider talking to your veterinarian.
Remember that as the person closest to your ferret, you should be able to sense signs of illness before anyone else. Stay attuned to your ferret’s normal behaviors so that you can catch illnesses in your ferret and treat them promptly to ensure your ferret’s comfort and well-being.
