Ferrets have a very fast metabolism rate. For this reason, they need to have food near them at all time. They have fast digestive systems and they will typically eat and process anything they’ve had to eat within a few hours. They will also need a lot of water to digest their food and stay hydrated. Without enough food and water, bad things can happen to your ferret. Ferrets are only awake for typically six hours of the day, but they are nonstop energy when they are awake. If your ferret is outside of its cage, you can get a heavy, crock bowl that is a common choice for owners. These work great, but you will need a rubber, non-scratching surface on the bottom to prevent the ferret from scratching your floor as it pushes the bowl around. You will need to prevent your ferret from chewing on this material, however.
