Finding Good Places to Ride Your Horse
So you’re ready to go for a horse ride, but you just realized you have a little problem. Where can you safely ride your horse? If you want to take him outside of the same paddock he’s been riding in, you need to search around your surroundings. There are a lot of great places to ride your horse, provided your animal doesn’t mind being in a horse trailer for a little while first.
The best place to ride a horse is on the local trails. You can relax and walk along atop your favorite animal. But you can’t just pick a trail and start riding. You will need to make sure the trail is marked for horses. If it’s not marked for horses, you could come across bikes, motocross bikes and even four wheelers, which could really scare your horse on his ride.
You can always find a place to ride, even if the places aren’t nearby. Try to see if a local neighbor with a lot of room would let you ride around on their yard. Make sure you have permission, though, because having a policeman escort you off the property and give you a ticket for trespassing is a good way to ruin a great ride.
If you live in the city, you might think there aren’t any places to ride a horse. Look for a large riding stable that has an indoor ring for you and your horse. You can exercise your horse on a regular basis this way and this is very healthy for both of you. This is a good alternative until you have time to take him on a long, rural adventure. There are sometimes places to ride your horse just outside the city limits as well so you can consider boarding your horse outside the limits to easily have access to rural roads as soon as you meet up with your horse again.
Find a horse-friendly campground or resort. As more and more forests are being ripped down, these campgrounds are becoming very popular. You can take your horse with you on vacation and spend all the time you want riding your horse though captivating scenery. Spend a week, a month or a weekend riding with your horse and spending a great deal of quality time together.
You can also ride your horse in local competitions provided you have the right training. You can find casual horse groups as well that compete for fun. College students will often share horses and compete among themselves just to have a good time. There are local groups that will get together to have fun and practice their skills in a variety of fields.
If you have being in the spotlight and have a confident, outgoing horse, you could look into riding in a parade. You will have to ask around about the local parades since most parades don’t contact horse riders singularly.
